The ONLY running event in Ireland where you run... blind!
Following the 2016 presentation of Running Blind, we had numerous requests as to where folks could train to be a guide runner.
Athletics NI, in conjunction with Disability Sports NI, offer a training course for
qualified coaches (LIRF, CIRF, Asst Athletics Coach, Athletics Coach).

GUIDE RUNNERS NI
is a FREE training course for ANYONE who wishes to learn how to guide a visually impaired/blind runner safely.
This specially designed short course is delivered by qualified, experienced running coaches who are also highly experienced guide and VI runners (up to Ultra Marathon).
The course includes:
* introduction to guide running
* basics of guiding a visually impaired/blind person
* different eye conditions and how they affect people
* opportunity to experience different levels of sight loss
by use of 'sim specs'
* how to guide a runner by use of a tether
* practical guiding session indoors and outdoors
*practical multi-surface 'real world' guide running, both as a guide runner and as a blind runner, guided by another participant on a short course which includes small inclines/declines, twists, turns, changing surfaces, kerbs and more.
All participants receive a guide running 'aide memoir' guide book, tethering strap, personal blindfold and certificate of completion.
Dependent on demand, Guide Runners NI hope to be able to deliver this FREE course on a regular basis. Locations will be advertised as they become available, however the course will initially be held at the Amphitheatre, Carrickfergus.
